Welcome to Our Little Slice of Slow Living

Hi friend, and welcome.

If you’ve found your way here, chances are you love the smell of fresh bread, the rhythm of simple days, or the idea of building a life that feels a little more intentional and a little less rushed. You’re in the right place.

This blog was born from a love of sourdough bread, homegrown food, raising chickens, teaching my kids at home, and learning (sometimes the hard way) how to live slower and more purposefully. What started as baking bread for my family and community has grown into a deeper passion for sharing the why and how behind this lifestyle.

Why Sourdough?

Sourdough was my gateway into everything else.

There’s something grounding about working with flour, water, and time—about learning to pay attention instead of forcing results. Sourdough taught me patience, problem-solving, and the beauty of fermentation and real food. Here, you’ll find approachable sourdough recipes, tips for beginners, troubleshooting for sluggish starters, and plenty of ways to fit baking into real life (even when kids are underfoot).

More Than Just Bread

While bread may be the heart of this space, it’s far from the whole story.

You’ll also find:

  • Homesteading-inspired living (even if you’re doing it in the suburbs)

  • Chicken keeping basics, lessons learned, and egg-collecting joy

  • Homeschooling life—the practical, the messy, and the rewarding

  • Simple from-scratch recipes for busy families

  • Encouragement for living slower, doing less, and choosing what matters

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress, learning together, and creating a home that feels nourishing in every sense of the word.

Who This Blog Is For

This space is for:

  • The mom baking bread between lessons

  • The beginner who’s intimidated by sourdough but curious

  • The family dreaming of a simpler, more connected life

  • The homesteader at heart, no matter how much land you have

If that sounds like you, I’m so glad you’re here.

What’s Coming Next

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing:

  • Favorite sourdough recipes (both everyday and special-occasion)

  • Starter care and troubleshooting guides

  • Chicken-keeping tips for beginners

  • Homeschool rhythms and resources that work for our family

  • Simple ways to build more self-sufficiency at home

So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and stay awhile. This is a place to learn, be encouraged, and maybe fall in love with slow living one loaf at a time.

Thanks for being here 🤍

— Ashlan
